XCStrings Translator is operated by Pixby Media AB, a Swedish-registered company. We've built the app so that your translation work stays on your Mac. This page explains what we do and don't collect, and what happens to the strings you send for translation.
The short version#
- Your
.xcstringsfiles, translations, and project configuration stay on your Mac. We do not store them. - To perform translations, the app sends the strings you ask to translate to third-party services we rely on. Those services process the content under their own terms.
- This website uses basic, anonymous analytics. We do not build user profiles, track you across sites, or sell data.
- The app does not currently send any analytics or telemetry. We may add anonymous, aggregated telemetry in the future for product development — never for marketing or advertising.
- Subscriptions are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
Data that stays on your Mac#
The app reads and writes .xcstrings files directly on your file system. The following information stays on your device and is never sent to us:
- Your string catalogs and translations.
- Project configuration stored in
.xcstrings-translator/config.json. - Recent project lists and per-project preferences.
Third-party translation services#
To translate strings, the app sends a request to third-party AI services we use to power translations. The request typically includes:
- The source strings you asked to translate.
- The target language(s).
- Translator comments attached to the strings.
- The app description and any custom translation prompt you have set on the project.
That data is processed by those providers on their infrastructure under their terms and privacy policies. We do not control how they handle, retain, log, or use that data, and provider behaviour may change without notice. Do not submit strings you are not comfortable sharing with a third-party AI service.
Website analytics#
This website uses a privacy-friendly analytics tool to understand how many people visit the site and which pages are popular. We collect aggregate, anonymous information such as page views, referrer, country, browser, and device type. We do not use cookies for tracking, we do not fingerprint visitors, and we do not build profiles of individual users. The hosting provider may also keep standard server logs for a short period for security and operational purposes.
In-app telemetry#
The app does not currently collect analytics or telemetry. We may add anonymous, aggregated telemetry in a future version to help us understand how features are used and improve the product (for example, crash reports or counts of how often certain actions happen). Any such telemetry would be limited to product development — never advertising, marketing, or profiling — and would not include the contents of your strings, translations, or files.
Apple subscriptions#
Paid plans are purchased and managed through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple handles your payment information, receipts, renewals, and refunds. We receive only the limited information Apple provides to developers (such as anonymised transaction identifiers and aggregate sales reports). We do not see your name, address, or payment details. Apple's privacy policy applies to those transactions: apple.com/legal/privacy.
Voluntary correspondence#
If you email us, we keep the message and your email address so we can respond and maintain a history of the conversation. We do not use this information for marketing.
When we share information#
We share information only:
- with the third-party translation services we use, when you ask the app to translate strings;
- with Apple, as part of distributing the app and processing subscriptions;
- with our hosting, analytics, and email providers as needed to operate the website and respond to messages;
- when required by law or to protect our rights.
Security#
Website traffic is served over HTTPS. The app runs inside the macOS App Sandbox. No system is perfectly secure; you are responsible for keeping your Mac and Apple ID secure.
Your rights#
If you are located in the European Economic Area or another region with similar laws, you have the right to access, rectify, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Since most of your data never leaves your Mac, these rights typically apply only to email correspondence you have sent us. Contact us at the address below to make a request.
Children#
XCStrings Translator is intended for software developers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Location of data#
Pixby Media AB operates from the European Union. Data we process (such as email correspondence and server logs) may be stored or processed in the EU, the United States, or other jurisdictions where our hosting, analytics, and email providers operate. Data you send for translation is processed wherever those providers operate.
Changes#
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the Services or to comply with the law. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised.
